Key Strategies

  1. Water fills from the bottom up

Water in a connected tank region is always horizontal and fills from the lowest point. If any cell in a region is filled, all cells at the same height or lower in that tank must also be filled.

  2. Check row and column totals

Each row and column clue shows exactly how many cells must be filled. Use these counts to determine which tanks must be partially or fully filled.

  3. Solve the smallest aquariums first

Single-cell or two-cell aquariums are either entirely full or entirely empty. Row/column clue counts often force their state immediately.

  4. Fill levels are per-aquarium

Two aquariums that share a column can have different water levels because they're separate containers. Don't assume water levels must match across aquarium boundaries.
