About Chess Melee
Chess Melee is a chess-based logic puzzle where you must arrange pieces on a board so that every piece attacks at least one other piece. There are no pawns — only the major and minor pieces: kings, queens, rooks, bishops, and knights. Given a fixed set of pieces, find a placement where mutual attacks form a connected web with no isolated piece.
The puzzle draws on chess knowledge in a creative way. Queens and rooks create long attack lines; bishops diagonalize; knights hop in L-shapes. Arranging pieces so that all attacks are mutual — every piece both attacks and is attacked — requires understanding each piece’s mobility with precision.
Chess Melee is ideal for chess players looking for a puzzle challenge, but it’s also accessible to non-players who learn the basic attack patterns. The visual clarity of chess icons and the small board size make the logical relationships easy to see and verify.
Knights are typically the hardest pieces to connect, since their L-shaped attack pattern doesn’t align with the straight lines of rooks, bishops, and queens. Place knights early and build the rest of the position around them, using long-range pieces to bridge the gaps.
