About Yin-Yang

Yin-Yang is a binary coloring puzzle: fill every cell with either black or white so that all black cells form one connected group, all white cells form one connected group, and no 2×2 block is entirely one color. Some cells are given as fixed; your task is to complete the coloring.

The simultaneous connectivity requirements for both colors is the core challenge. Making one color’s group more connected often risks disconnecting the other. The 2×2 prohibition prevents the easy solution of large solid blocks, forcing the two colors to interleave in interesting ways throughout the grid.

Yin-Yang is elegant in its simplicity — just two colors, three rules. Yet the interaction between the two connectivity requirements and the 2×2 prohibition creates logical depth that surprises new players. It’s an excellent gateway puzzle for anyone new to connectivity-based logic.

When a cell’s placement would disconnect either color group, that placement is immediately eliminated. Check connectivity after each move — a cell that seems free may be forced by the global connectivity requirements even when no local rule eliminates it.
