About Solo Chess

Solo Chess presents a board with multiple chess pieces and a simple question: can you reduce the board to exactly one piece through legal captures? Each move, one piece captures another — moving as it would in real chess — until only one survivor remains.

The challenge is sequencing: not every order of captures works. Pieces you need to reach later may become stranded if you clear the path to them too early. Some pieces can only capture what they directly attack, so the order of captures must be planned carefully to avoid leaving unreachable pieces on the board.

Solo Chess is one of the most tactically engaging solo chess puzzles ever designed. It requires no opponent, no time pressure, and no memorized openings — just pure piece mobility and sequence planning. A great choice for chess players who want a daily tactical workout without the complexity of a full game.

Work backward from the last piece: imagine which piece will be the survivor, then check whether all other pieces can reach it through a valid capture sequence. If one piece can only be captured from a specific direction that another piece will block, that ordering constraint must be respected throughout.
