About Slant
Slant (also called Gokigen Naname) is a puzzle where you draw a diagonal line in each cell of a grid — every cell gets exactly one diagonal, either ”/” or "". Clue numbers appear at grid vertices (the corner points between cells), telling you how many of the four adjacent diagonals pass through that vertex.
A vertex with clue 0 has all four diagonals pointing away; a vertex with clue 4 has all four pointing toward it. Clues of 1, 2, or 3 constrain the balance of incoming versus outgoing diagonals. The additional rule is that the diagonals must form a single connected tree — no closed loops allowed.
Slant is fast-playing and visually distinctive: filling in diagonals creates a hatching pattern that evolves as you solve. The no-loops rule gives the puzzle a global structure that goes beyond simple local clue-following, rewarding solvers who think about the overall tree structure.
Corner vertices are the best starting points. A corner vertex with clue 0 or 4 immediately determines the single diagonal touching it. With clue 1, the diagonal must be the one that passes through that vertex; with clue 0, the diagonal must avoid it.
