-
Non-attacking means no piece threatens another
Your placed pieces must not attack each other. A queen next to a bishop on the same diagonal is invalid. Think about attack lines before placing.
-
Fixed pieces dictate available zones
Pre-placed pieces already attack certain rows, columns, and diagonals. Map out these zones before placing any of your pieces.
-
Place pieces from most to least constrained
Queens and bishops restrict the most squares. Place them first (or work around fixed queens/bishops first), then fit rooks and knights into the remaining safe squares.
-
Knights don't block diagonals
Knights only attack their specific L-shaped squares. Use this to place knights close to other pieces without creating conflicts that a bishop or rook would cause.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
