-
Treat jigsaw regions like boxes
Each irregular region must contain the digits 1–9 exactly once, just like a standard 3×3 box. Apply box-based Sudoku techniques (naked singles, hidden singles) to each region.
-
Region shape guides candidate placement
Jigsaw regions can span multiple rows and columns in irregular ways. A digit locked to one row within a region eliminates that digit from the rest of that row.
-
Use region intersection
When two regions overlap in a specific row or column, digits that must appear in the overlap portion can be eliminated from other cells in both regions' row/column coverage.
-
Start where regions are most constrained
Small sections of regions confined to a single row or column are highly constrained. These often allow quick placements that chain into the broader grid.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
