-
Understand the scoring
Filling a cell in column C contributes C points to its row's score, and filling it in row R contributes R points to its column's score. Each cell's contribution depends on its position.
-
Start with clue 0 lines
A row or column clue of 0 means no cells in that line are filled. Mark all of them as empty immediately.
-
Work with extreme clues
A row clue equal to the sum of all column indices means every cell in the row is filled. Similarly for columns. These are rare but immediately placed.
-
Use unique sum decompositions
Some clue values can only be achieved by one combination of column indices. For example, a row clue of 3 in a 4-column grid can only be column 3 filled, or columns 1+2 filled.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
