-
Memorize key sum combinations
Some combinations are unique: a 2-cell run summing to 3 must be {1,2}; summing to 16 must be {7,9}; summing to 17 must be {8,9}. Memorizing these unlocks many cells instantly.
-
Use the digit-exclusion rule
Each run must use distinct digits (no repeats). If a run's sum and length force a small set of possible combinations, cross out invalid digits from each cell.
-
Intersect row and column candidates
Each cell belongs to one horizontal and one vertical run. The valid digit for the cell must appear in both runs' candidate sets. The intersection is often a single digit.
-
Look for small or large extreme sums
Very small sums (close to 1+2+3+…) or very large sums (close to 7+8+9+…) have few possible combinations. Start with the most constrained runs.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
