Key Strategies

  1. Place lights for 0-clue black cells

A black cell labeled 0 must not have any light bulb adjacent to it orthogonally. Mark all four neighboring cells as "no bulb" immediately.

  2. Solve maxed-out black cells

A black cell whose clue equals the number of empty neighbors must have a bulb in every empty neighboring cell. Place all those bulbs at once.

  3. Check for forced placements

If a row or column segment between two black cells can only be illuminated by placing a bulb in one specific cell, place it.

  4. Bulbs illuminate in four directions

A single bulb lights its entire row and column until blocked by a black cell. After placing a bulb, immediately mark all the cells it illuminates as "lit."

  5. Avoid bulb conflicts

No two bulbs may illuminate each other. Before placing a bulb, check whether any existing bulb in the same row or column would conflict.

Put It Into Practice

The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
