-
Consecutive constraints are powerful
The marks between cells indicate whether two adjacent cells are consecutive (|n - m| = 1). If a cell is marked as consecutive with two neighbors, its value range is narrow.
-
Apply Latin-square rules
Each row and column contains each digit exactly once, like Sudoku. Combine elimination with the consecutive constraints to narrow candidates.
-
Chain consecutive marks
Three cells in a row each connected by consecutive marks form a run like {3,4,5} or {5,4,3}. Determine the starting digit to resolve the entire chain.
-
Absent marks eliminate consecutive digits
If there is no consecutive mark between two adjacent cells, they cannot be consecutive. Use this to rule out candidate values.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
