-
Thermometers fill from the bulb end
Mercury always rises from the bulb toward the tip. Filled cells are always a contiguous segment starting at the bulb — you can never skip a cell.
-
Use row and column totals
Row and column clues show how many cells total are filled (across all thermometers in that line). Use these counts to determine which thermometers are fully, partially, or not filled.
-
Forced full or empty thermometers
If a row clue forces a certain number of filled cells and a thermometer in that row has all its cells in the same row, it might need to be fully filled or left empty.
-
Work from extremes
If a row clue equals the total thermometer cells in that row, every cell is filled. If a row clue is 0, every cell is empty. Solve these forced cases first.
Put It Into Practice
The best way to improve is to play regularly. Start with an easy puzzle and apply these techniques one at a time.
